Wow! Less than a week to go until Celebrate Aberdeen 2017. The year’s event programme is bursting with even more activities than ever. Time poor? Unsure where to start? Here are ten ideas to whet your appetite…
- Smile for a mile
Be part of the high-energy start to the weekend by cheering on our fittest and finest as they compete in the Union Street Mile. Bag your Saturday morning spot before 10:30am to see both the juniors and seniors compete.
- Parading power
The Celebrate Aberdeen flagship parade makes its way from Holburn Junction to the Castlegate, departing at 11am. Moving at a rather more sedate pace than the sprinters beforehand, the 2017 parade throng will include an incredible 160 charitable, voluntary, sporting and musical organisations.
- Lunch al fresco
Enjoying Celebrate Aberdeen is hungry work! Luckily, some local eateries are on hand in Union Terrace Gardens to help. Piggery Smokery is sure to tempt many a peckish spectator. Cake lover? Caffeine addict? Swing past Cakes by Alli-Baba and Cafe2U.
- Open sesame
Union Terrace Gardens is the venue for the official opening of the Celebrate Weekend. Be there at 1pm as the festivities get underway: the stage will play host to a series of fabulous local acts throughout the afternoon.
- Piece of the action
Enjoy a physical spectacle or two? Check out Wrestlezone, who will be at their battling best between performance changeovers in Union Terrace Gardens. You can also catch the Granite City Brawlers – our skating supremos – in the Bon Accord Centre from 2pm.
- At your service
Our Sunday events programme begins with a special Celebrate Aberdeen service at St Mark’s Church on Rosemount Viaduct. All are welcome to attend.
- Sunday run
Celebrate Aberdeen is providing entertainment along the Great Aberdeen Run route to keep all entrants motivated. Spectators who choose their spot carefully can enjoy music ranging from bands to traditional bagpipes.
- Shall we dance?
Absolutely! Sunday’s schedule is stuffed with dance-related delights. Check out the Aberdeen Cheer and Dance Company followed by Pam Dignan Dancers in Union Square. Basing yourself in the Bon Accord Centre? Catch the Walker Road Dancers from 2pm.
- In good voice
Sing along (or simply listen) to two extremely talented groups: the Silver City Singers and the B-Naturals Acapella Group, performing in the Bon Accord and Trinity Centres respectively.
- Band aid
Where to start? A whole series of talented bands will perform on the Celebrate Aberdeen stages. On day two alone you can choose from a range of styles including blues, ceilidh, alternative funk rock and metal.
So much talent, so little time…Hope to see you there.
